Are you a Libertarian?
5th March, 2010
Had a conversation with my brother's future in-laws this week about what a Libertarian is. I am one.
I don't know how you feel about how much government should have to do with your life, but my position is the bare minimum. I'll pay them taxes and in return they can guard the borders, tar the roads, police the streets and make sure the water and electricity flow. As for my children's education, my health, my housing, my pension and all the rest - I'd rather manage that myself.
The less government do for me, the less they may ask of me. Those who rely on government diminish their own ability to make empowered decisions about their lives, future and independence. A welfare state is never going to lead the way, it will always be dragging a huge burden.

I'm with you. But what about people that can't see the importance of a medical aid until the paw-paw hits the fan. Until the first person dies because he couldn't plan properly. How many building will they burn down and how many highways will the block because the government says sorry, you should have looked after yourself ?

My sentiments exactly!
